Duo Ostinato est une rencontre où l’exigence
de l’interprétation côtoie la liberté de l’improvisation. Fondée en 2015, cette formation s’est rapidement forgé une belle réputation sur le plan international : concerts en France, Allemagne, Autriche, Italie, Finlande, Hongrie, Slovénie, Pays-Bas, Japon, Corée du sud, Chine, Hong Kong, Taïwan, Australie et aux États-Unis. Marija Aupy (piano) et Philippe Geiss (saxophone), passionnés de musique de chambre, aiment s’enrichir de la découverte de nouveaux répertoires et du dialogue entre les différents styles musicaux. Un langage « crossover » est élaboré, pas à pas, à travers des œuvres originales et des arrangements de Philippe Geiss.

Duo Ostinato is a collaboration in which the demands of interpretation rub shoulders with the freedom of improvisation. Created in 2015, the group has quickly developed an important reputation internationally, performing in France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Finland, Hungary, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taïwan, Australia and the USA. Marija Aupy (piano) and Philippe Geiss (saxophone), both passionate about chamber music, enrich their playing by seeking out new repertoires and creating a dialogue between musical styles. Step by step, through original works and arrangements by Philippe Geiss, they have developed a “crossover” language of their own.

Philippe Geiss

Musicien de renommée internationale, Philippe Geiss donne des concerts et des master classes dans le monde entier. Il s’illustre dans des registres très différents. Son vaste parcours s’étend de la musique classique aux musiques improvisées. Il a obtenu le prix de la meilleure musique de scène au Festival d’Avignon, le prix de l’Académie du disque français et le prix musique de l’Académie rhénane. Philippe Geiss est aujourd’hui un compositeur reconnu, édité chez Billaudot, Robert Martin et Leduc. Son catalogue s’étend d’œuvres solos au répertoire symphonique. Professeur au Conservatoire de Strasbourg et à l’Académie supérieure de musique de Strasbourg / Haute École des Arts du Rhin, il est également professeur invité au Senzoku Gakuen College de Tokyo et membre du comité de pilotage scientifique du LabEx GREAM de l’Université de Strasbourg. Philippe Geiss est vice- président du Comité International du Saxophone. Dans le prolongement de cette action, il a assuré la direction artistique de SaxOpen – XVIIème Congrès & Festival mondial du Saxophone à Strasbourg en 2015. C’est un artiste Selmer et D’Addario.

A musician of international fame, Philippe
Geiss gives concerts and master classes all over the world. Exceling in very diverse disciplines, he has mastered a repertoire that extends from classical to improvised music. He has been awarded prizes for Best Music for Drama at
the Festival d’Avignon and the Académie du disque français, as well as the Music Prize of the Académie Rhénane. Besides his performance skills, he is also in great demand as a composer, with a catalogue ranging from solo to symphonic repertoire and published by Billaudot, Robert Martin and Leduc. He is Professor at the Strasbourg Conservatory and the Strasbourg Superior Music Academy / Haute École des Arts du Rhin, as well as a Guest Professor at the Senzoku Gakuen College of Tokyo and a member of the scientific committee of LabEx-GREAM at Strasbourg University. Philippe Geiss is Vice-President of the International Saxophone Committee, in which role he masterminded the artistic direction of SaxOpen – the 17th Congress and World Festival of the Saxophone – in Strasbourg in 2015.

Marija Aupy

Pianiste d’origine serbe, premier prix à l’unanimité de l’Académie Franz Liszt de Budapest et de l’école Mokranjac de Belgrade, elle est titulaire de plusieurs grands prix internationaux. Marija vit aujourd’hui en France et partage son temps entre la scène et l’enseignement. Musicienne très polyvalente, elle s’est déjà produite en tant que soliste et accompagnatrice dans de nombreux pays d’Europe, notamment avec Eva Marton, Jean-Pierre Blivet, Marianne Mateos de Havilland, Hubert Humeau, le Quatuor de Paris, le Chœur européen de

Paris, le Chœur mixte arménien de Paris, l’orchestre symphonique Leó Weiner, l’orchestre symphonique MÁV, l’ensemble instrumental Texture de Milan, l’ensemble de saxophones MIT de Taïwan ; elle collabore régulièrement avec l’Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg depuis février 2015. La variété et l’étendue de son répertoire témoignent à la fois de sa maîtrise du répertoire classique et de son ouverture vers la création contemporaine : Aleksandar Vujic lui dédie sa Suite op. 30 pour piano, Avy Schönfeld sa Cantilène et Garbis Aprikian ses Pièces pour piano. Son intérêt pour les autres arts l’amène également à collaborer avec des comédiens, peintres, danseurs, sommeliers, chefs, etc. Sa discographie compte plusieurs albums avec des oeuvres de Scriabine, Shchedrin, Simic, Chopin, Ravel, Haydn, Beethoven, Bartók et Aprikian. Elle a également participé à de nombreux enregistrements pour les télévisions et radios allemandes, serbes, hongroises et françaises. Son expérience pédagogique reconnue l’a amenée à enseigner à l’Académie internationale de Paris, au Conservatoire de Neuilly ainsi que dans d’autres établissements parisiens. En 2009, elle a créé sa propre école de piano à Strasbourg et donne des master classes au Japon et à Taïwan. 

A pianist of Serbian origin, she was unanimously awarded rst prize from the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest and the Mokranjac school in Belgrade. She is also the holder of several international Grand Prizes. Marija Aupy now lives in France and divides her time between performing and teaching. A versatile musician, she has performed as a soloist and an accompanist in numerous countries in Europe, notably with Eva Marton, Jean-Pierre Blivet, Marianne Mateos de Havilland, Hubert Humeau, the Paris quartet, the European Choir of Paris, the Armenian mixed Choir of Paris, the Leó Weiner Symphony orchestra, the MAV Symphony orchestra and the instrumental ensemble “Texture” in Milan. Since February 2015, she has collaborated on a regular basis with the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra. e variety and extent of her repertoire are a testament to her knowledge of the classical repertoire and her awareness of contemporary composition: Aleksandar Vujic dedicated his Suite op. 30 for piano to her, Avy Schönfeld his Cantilena and Garbis Aprikian his Pieces for piano.
